Talking to the Yardley Photography Society

At the Moseley Art Market this weekend a chap came up and asked if I was Pete Ashton. I certainly am, I replied. He was Peter Jackson from the Yardley Photographic Society and he was interested in having me give a talk about my work.

Well golly, I said. I’d love to! And so it was.

I’m booked to talk at their regular weekend meeting on Tuesday 14th September from 7.45 – 10.00pm. I think he said there’s a nominal fee, something like £2, to cover costs.

The meetings take place at The Trust School, Church Road, Yardley, B33 8PB, next door to St Edburgha’s Church. Google Map I think it’s this building:

which looks worthy of a visit anyway.

I’ve just clocked that I have to talk for two hours about my photography.

Blimey.

Colmore Market

Next Friday 10th I’ve got at pitch on Colmore Business District‘s Arts and Crafts Market run by Francine of Handmade. Here’s the flyer:

This will take over a chunk of Church Street between Cornwall and Edmund Streets. Here’s the diagram I was sent:

The market runs from 11am to 6pm and is just along from Urban Coffee Co.

Artsfest pitch confirmed

The plans for this year’s Artsfest Art On The Railings just came though and I do think I’ve landed quite the plum spot. According to the diagram I’m going to be here:

Broad%20St,%20Birmingham%20-%20Google%20Maps

There are 15 pitches along the railings with most sharing the large semi-circled but I get the whole of that end piece. It’s quite substantial so I’ll have to give the layout a good think.

My plan is to have something weather proof stuck up which doesn’t matter if it rains and keep any stock safely in a bag ready for the sunshine. Meanwhile I’ll be showing off my contraptions, handing out flyers and hawking for commissions. I may set up a portrait booth or something along those lines. Many things to ponder.

Artsfest runs over the weekend of September 11-12th with the railings running from 12-6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Should be fun!

Handmade Birmingham starts this weekend

HandmadeMarketHeader

The Handmade Market has been running in the Custard Factory for a few months now with varying degrees of success but this weekend moves up the road into the main shopping area of Birmingham on Edgbaston Street between the markets and the Bullring, just about here:

And it’s not just a one-off. The market plans to run every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, until Christmas. So along with the (newly renamed) This Is Birmingham shop due to open in November and other things I don’t know of or have forgotten about there are few reasons to buy mass produced tat this Winter.

I’m planning to support this venture as much as I can over the next month. Due to prior commitments I can’t make every weekend but I’ll be there this Sunday and on five of the September dates. See the Shops and Markets page for all my scheduled appearances.

While Handmade launches on Saturday I won’t be there because I’ll be at the Moseley Art Market. Unfortunately, due to a wedding and the Supersonic Festival, this will be my last Moseley stall til November 27th’s MegaBigMarket so if you can’t tear yourself away from B13 don’t miss Saturday.

The Dirty Bristow cover

Just been given the okay by the Dirty Bristow boys to reveal the cover of the first issue of their magazine.

Horned Lambs

It’s officially launched on Saturday night at their Village Fete. If you’re in Birmingham do come along as it should be a rather special, if silly, affair. I’ll be there running a Peg Holding stall and, more pertinently to this blog, selling prints of the cover.

They’re A4 prints signed in silver ink in the bottom right corner. You can get them on the night or at my market stalls or, if you can’t make any of them, by mail order. I’m also selling the magazine and doing a bundle.

Three options, all including postage.

Print only: £8
Magazine only: £4
Print and Magazine: £10

Here’s your PayPal thingy:

Budget frames are here

I’ve been looking for something to sell that’s between a badge (£1) and a mounted print (£15), something that doesn’t require any work and can easily slot into someone’s home. Inspired by Jane Anderson I’m introducing a range of budget frames.

Budget%20Frames

These are 7×5″ prints of my larger works in a wooden frame. I’m planning on selling them for £8 each and they’ll be go on sale at next weekend’s markets.
